A civilian sidearm from Southern Spain during the time of the Carlist Civil Wars which were fought over the succession to the Spanish throne by two branches of the royal Borbon family. The Carlists attempted to restore the line of Charles IV with three successive pretenders to the throne. As with all Civil wars, personal protection in the streets became a high priority and necessity. This sword served a civilian owner during those treacherous times.
