Brass hilt, formerly gilt, with circular or disk guard. Elongated quillon block flanked by large inner ring guards. That configuration is to accommodate the dueling grip with the first two fingers within the respective rings and enclosing the quillon block. That both positions the hand naturally forward (instead of angled as with embracing the grip) and creates a pivot point to best control the blade. Brass grip with stylized foliage decoration.  32” flattened diamond section blade, undecorated. At the time, it was fashionable in Spain and Italy for young noble dandies to wear these swords in the streets, looking for opportunities to provoke a duel which ended when first blood was drawn.
