38 1/2” diamond section blade,  deeply fullered at the forte inscribed with CROCIFISSIO EN ALE NI NIR (?) and EN TOLEDO opposite. The first, evidently the work of an illiterate workman as frequently encountered. The blade retains most of its original blued finish. Gilt hilt with turned edge guard integral with the crossguard. See European Swords and Armour, Oakeshott, Pl.21 example B for a comparable example with a double fullered blade, identified as Spanish C.1710. The hilt with slight remnants of its original fire gilt gold. Original wire wrapped grip. Evidence of use includes a major strike to the left side of the cup with results as imaged. That damage is clearly from blood dueling and attests to the violent history of this weapon.
