Vintage example probably dating to the Spanish Revival period of 1915-30. 40 3/4" length with 33 1/4" broad double-edged blade decorated in foliage with “demon dog” terminals surround a lion rampant cartouche. A product of the Toledo Spain renaissance revival of the late 1860s which reached its pear popularity in the 1880s, of exquisite quality, generally marked Fabrica De Toledo, often with date, in the decoration. This example is marked TOLEDO SPAIN, referencing that industry, rather than Made in Spain as required after 1930. The style is based on the early Moorish influence examples preserved in Armeria del Palacio Real de Madrid.
