Reign of Frederick the Great. Brass hilt with broad edged heart shaped guard and grip spirally fluted to the right side. The knuckle bow with regimental markings. 25 ½” curved broad fullered blade with crowned F R cipher each side. Excellent uniform condition with minor edge nicks and the blade decoration crisp. Prussia in the northeast of what is today, Germany, was expanded under Frederick the Great including the annexation of Polish Prussia from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Following the Seven Years War in which German troops fought for the British, they again supported England in The Revolution with over a third of English forces being German mercenaries.
