Prussia in the northeast of what is today, Germany, was expanded under Frederick the Great including the annexation of Polish Prussia from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Following the Seven Years War in which German troops fought for the British, they again supported England in The Revolution with over a third of English forces being German mercenaries.
