18th century. Iron hilt, the cross guard and langets finely chiseled in deep relief foliage. Swelled grip. Dished pommel with inset plate intricately chiseled with radial serpentine "sun" motif. 30" s.e. medially fullered blade shows superficial staining only and a little pitting toward the point only. Very likely watered steel. Black leather covered wood scabbard splintered at the throat.
