Iron hilt with radially fluted oval with a scalloped edge. Grip, knuckle bow, and pommel all delicately sculpted in radially fluted and diamond faceted segments. 32 3/7" hollow face triangular blade with double leather blade seat. The hilt and blade with rich chocolate brown patina, fades from blue, indicating that this sword was originally blued overall. Precursor to the later "glitter hilt" examples and undoubtedly the sword of a military officer. Type used in the American Revolution as well as the Napoleonic Wars. See Swords and Blades of the American Revolution, #223S, and #224S for related examples.
