Massive forged iron head, flat on the left side, with bearded bit stamped with a maker’s mark. Heavy oak haft made from a limb. Used to shape the oak staves while constructing wine barrels. The head hand forged with hardened edge forge welded on. The haft with wonderful glossy patina from extensive use and handling. Recently acquired from an advanced collection of axes. Wonderful wall accessory for a wine cellar.
