The hilt with considerable remnants of original gold (fire gilt) surface intact. 30 1/2” diamond sectioned blade with long base fuller pierced with pairs of circles and key slot motifs. The transition with an X each side. Type associated with the War of Spanish Succession in which the Duke of Marlborough, John Churchill, leading the Grand Alliance, distinguished himself at the battle of Blenheim.
