South European/Mediterranean. The gilt hilt of elaborate rococo elements. Slightly asymmetrical shell guard with scrolling foliate core and edges. Scroll reinforced arms to the guard. Profuse rococo foliate work to the other elements with the grip, quillon block and pommel in complimentary spiral motifs. 29 1/8” rapier blade with a short inscription to the fuller each side, remounted from an earlier sword as was the practice in Italy and Spain. The hilt with well toned heavy gold finish.
