Late 14th to 15th century. This fine sword accords with examples identified by Oakeshott as Type XV and in particular, with an example, XVa.6 which he dates at 1360 and suggests might have been hung above the tomb of Edward, Prince of Wales, The Black Prince, in Canterbury Cathedral. This example share features with others in the XV group dating into the early 15th century. The blade is 38 1/8” long with a rounded medial, tapering through its length. The slightly downcurved cross guard has angle tips, specific to this group. Swords of this type are well represented on church brasses and stone reliefs in England.
