The Netherlands were strong trading partners with the Colonial America and supplied war materiel including gunpowder, cannonballs, muckets and other weapons despite their position of neutrality. The British challenged the shipments at sea which led to the Anglo-Dutch War which ended in 1784. This sword is a fine example of the Dutch hanger complete with its original scabbard. See Swords and Blades of the American Revolution, Neumann, #48.S for an identical example.  Brass hilt with wire wrapped leather covered grip (a little wear to the spots). 27” curved narrow fullered blade with a few expected tiny nicks. Black leather scabbard with scalloped borders and brass mounts. The leather a little warped near the tip, but sound tight and the seam intact as made. Very rarely encountered with the original scabbard and even more rare in this condition.
