19th century comprising two European mold blown bottles secured together with full encasement wrap of home spun cord over cloth. The surface decorated with rows of cowries and central fetish bundle with pair of amuletic carved wood members opposite. Enormous character and fine untouched condition. All wrap and cowries intact. Even retaining their original rolled paper stoppers. The bottles and cowries were very valuable. The herbalist is what was commonly called at the time a witch doctor. Yoruba herbalists practiced accompanied by a staff mounted with 16 witches which may be the origin of that expression.
