Iron head, 9 5/8” height with crescent form bit and double back spike with central double point with addorsed crescent form projections at the base. Silver koftgari decoration both sides in lattice and floral patterns. The haft encased in Nile crocodile skin, sacred to the Mahdists and dating this example to the Anglo-Sudanese War of 1885. The skin shrunk/slightly short one end. Untouched with the silver substantially complete.
