19th century. Captured during the Insurrection of 1899 and part of the General Harry Bandholtz Collection which won first prize at the 1905 Saint Louis Exposition. 67 5/8” length. Forged iron point of characteristic form of boldly contrasting patterned Damascus steel with fine original transverse tool finish. Good woven split cane socket in five ranks. Tapered stepped cane shaft decorated by skillfully scraping the surface or bark, revealing the darker core or heart. Fine age character throughout. Likely a generation old before its capture.
