Displayed at the Monroe County Historical Museum, 2001-2. 71” length with a large and particularly flamboyant head with upcurled base spurs. Iron socket. Fine alternate woven split cane and red rattan wrap. Tapered shaft made without a base shoe. Fine preservation for the period. Collected during the Philippine Insurrection (1899-1902) at which time headhunting was still practiced. Compare to Metropolitan Museum #36.25.2046, ex: Stone collection, illustrated in Stone’s Glossary, fig 278 and which is of inferior quality and condition to this example.
