The form allows for optimum hand positioning in battle by feel only. Used in household raids, this sword is suited for close-in fighting and dispatch of unmarketable quarry. They were slavers, at constant war with their neighbors and fought the Mad Mahdi's Army in 1885 defeating them twice. They fought the great slaver, Tipu Tib, ultimately driving the Arabs out in 1891.
