At the time, battle in western Europe was base largely on the use of infantry, whereas, in the East, it was largely mounted. Weapons as well, evolved differently with the saddle axe and hammer remaining important in the East. This helmet is iron with two piece skull/brim, sliding nasal and rolled edge protection as four simulated plates. Minor dents consistent with its age and use.   May well have served at the Siege of Vienna in 1683.
