Original engraving of one of England’s most controversial figures and the namesake for John Wilkes Booth to whom he was related. A Member of Parliament and publisher of The North Briton, he made enemies at home and friends in America, supporting the Revolution. His criticism of other activists included Hogarth who produced this print depicting Wilkes, cross eyed and crazed sitting next to the two most notorious issues of the North Britton. His wig suggests Satanic horns and the Liberty Cap on his pole has been compared to a chamber pot.
