Pair of Benoist engravings of British subjects: Sir Edward Coke, judge and Politian considered to be the greatest jurist of the Elizabethan and Jacobian periods and Edward Hyde, loyalist and Lord Chancellor to Charles II. 4” x 3 3/8” plate size. Signed in the plate by the artist. Both engraved in 1757. Examples of both are in the National Portrait Gallery, London. Guillaume Philippe Benoist, 1725-70 was a French engraver who later worked in England. These portraits are archivally (acid-free) matted.
