Silvered bronze, an extraordinary example. Over 1 7/8" (1.93”) height with the cross beam above center and five “circle and dot” motifs remembering the five wounds of Christ. Each beam expanding toward the ends. That form was later modified to become the Maltese Cross of the Knights Hospitallers in the 16th century. The size and proportions of this example suggest that it was worn by a priest or knight of a religious order. Professionally refurbished with the silver surface restored on an 18” Sterling silver neck chain for modern wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
