MEDIEVAL NORTHERN EUROPEAN RING, 12TH-15TH CENTURY AD 9 3/4

Gilt bronze, size 9 ¾ with 3.2mm low rounded face band flaring to the foliate decorate shoulders. Raised edge circular bezel with central fungiform motif, probably a representation of the Tree of Life. That symbol is known as Yggdrasil in Norse mythology, and like many other pagan concepts, was incorporated into Christian culture after conversion.
