Pattern used during the Civil War and renewed with the specifications of 1872. This example with its 32 1/8” curved brad fullered blade of lighter construction is identified as the 1872 pattern. Plated brass hilt with high relief floral decoration and wire wrapped leather covered grip. Unmarked, the blade in bright original finish. Plated scabbard with dull finish and some brown worn spots, but undented.  Both suspension rings removed. Pattern which served in the Post war westward expansion and Pacific coast settlements.
