Dutch standard pattern.  See Swords and Blades of the American Revolution, #48.S for an identical example. Brass hilt with three bar guard. The quillon back with a cursive monogram. Wire wrapped leather covered grip complete. 26 ½” curved narrow back fullered blade (few small edge nicks). Excellent for the period. The Dutch were sympathetic to the American cause, but remained neutral, suppling goods and weapons to the Americans. The presence of a monogram on this sword indicates that it was privately owned and thus American, as enlisted soldiers did not own their weapons. Clearly a Dutch sword sold in America for service in the Revolution.
