Example of a type produced in Germany and sold to the many small preunification European governments, as well as English and American regiments. See Swords and Blades of the American Revolution, Neumann, #11.S and 16.S for related examples, both identified as English. Brass hilt with double shell guards struck with a series of regimental marks. 25” unfullered curved single edged blade with long false edge, unmarked. Hilt sound with good patina. The blade smooth gray with a little pitting to the extreme tip, negligible.  Fine hand made leather scabbard, dating to the bicentennial or earlier as it shows age shrinkage, with original brass frog hook. Evidently originally with a period scabbard in poor preservation and the hook was salvaged and remounted here for the owner to wear.
