American, 19th century, probably Pennsylvania. Heavy forged iron, adjustable from 13 ½” to 18 ½”. Used to suspend cooking pots and adjustable height to regulate heat. The fine scrolled spade terminal of the upper bar suggests a Pennsylvania Dutch influence.
