Ex: Schindler’s Antiques, King Street, Charleston, purchased about 1980. Bronze, size 9 1/4 with raised bezel hand engraved with a shield-like device, probably armorial British indicative of an aristocratic Confederate owner. Set with a faceted yellow “stone”, probably glass. It was common for cavalry troopers to remove their rings before battle as they marginally compromised the purchase of the sword grip.
