European made as supplied to both sides, to the 1840 pattern. 34 5/8” curved broad fullered blade, unmarked. Brass hilt with double side guards. Wire wrapped leather covered grip. Excellent for the period with minor blemishes as expected. German-made, undoubtedly by one of the major makers, such as Weyersberg. As these makers routinely marked their blades with their company logos, it is generally accepted that unmarked examples such a this were produced for the South and unmarked to avoid disfavor of their Northern customers. Generally referred to by collectors as “secondary Confederate” swords.
