Revolutionary War period and typically based on contemporary European examples. The distinguishing features are the heavy proportions of the hilt elements and the 30 ½” flattened diamond section blade which is hand hammered and bears some of the original tool (file) marks to minimize irregularity of the surface. The forte is stamped with a serpentine series of punches. Condition is typical of examples coming out of New England in the 1950s and ’60s with stable surface rust and light to medium pitting to the blade. The hilt with very dark storage patina.
