Fascinating example. 10 3/4" d.e triangular blade reworked from a triangular bayonet. The flat side skillfully reduced by about a 32nd of an inch to produce a sharp edge from the thick blunted edge of the bayonet. The forte of original thickness, now raised with a step. Bronze cross guard, slightly tapered, octagonal section. Reeded black horn grip with inset brass veins. Banded brass base ferrule and pommel. Original stitched heavy leather scabbard. The grip, in the French or Mediterranean style suggests an owner of French descent. The quality suggests an officer. Very few daggers of the Revolution survive. This must have been among the best quality.
