Peterson #86  Custer era and showing distinctive Western Frontier character. 31 5/8" blade with C LOMBARDI & CO NEW YORK retailer’s name. Weakley struck as typical as this is a retailer’s name applied after the sword was assembled. C Lombardi is recorded as working 1870-75 only, making this a very early example of the pattern during the Westward expansion following the Civil War.  Brass hilt with three bar guard and wire wrapped leather covered grip. The iron scabbard, brown with light surface texture, with brass mounts. The scabbard tip closed with an iron strip, probably made this way as there is no screw hole for a tip mount. Blade gray with scattered black oxidation and scattered pitting, mostly to the lower half. Early datable Custer era example with great age appearance which exudes Western/cowboy character.
