William Murray, Earl of Mansfield was a barrister, politician and judge who rose to Attorney General for England and Wales. More interesting is that he raised a half black niece named Dido Belle and defied then current conventions by educating her and integrating her into society. The internet provides considerable additional information on Dido Belle.  Circa 1795. Finely engraved. Identical example in the Library of Congress Collection. Professionally matted to 8” x 10” for an off the shelf frame from Michael’s, Walmart etc. Genuine 230 year old original.
