Mahdist period C.1880s. 30 total length. Iron head with leaf shaped blade with double opposing rows of barbs, all present. Forged seam socket. Dark wood haft with spiral iron weighted butt and hide segment below the head. Snake skin wrap above the butt and mid point. Shows age and wear from use. Head with brown patina over original tool marks. Rare example of the short spear used in the fanatical suicidal attacks which broke the square at Tamai.
