One piece wood haft, slightly tapered through its length, polished over original tool finish. Octagonal head with simple transition, mounted with four pairs of especially long diamond section spikes. Heavy iron top ring.

75 1/2" length. The haft made from the trunk of a conifer, hewn to circular section with especially long octagonal head with plain hewn transition. Heavy iron top ring held captive by two spikes. Forged triangular fore spike and heavy pyramidal spikes.

Probably German Iron head with intricately pierced axe blade and back fluke, each with stylized bird head scrolls. Ridged socket stepped below the medial ridged spear point. 9 1/2” length on original haft with carved faceted conical butt.
