From a distinct group of cavalry swords which armed regiments organized under the Campbells of Breadalbane. The blade etched first quarter with scrolling foliage, thistle and lattice motifs. Basket weave form hilt with large central hand engraved badge of a crowned thistle in a heart. The Campbells were loyal to the crown through the Scottish Rebellion and formed several regiments providing troops to serve King George III in the years following. This example is distinguished by its excellent preservation. Blade length: 30"

This sword is from a group of which about a dozen examples are known. Variations in the configuration of the hilt elements include examples with and with out a forward quillon and the inclusion of an oval rein aperture.
