CHINESE CHILDS ARCHERS RING..
|
|
Item Number: 07-599
17th-18th century.
Made for the sons of respected warriors and evidently used only for
funerary purposes. Laboriously carved from natural jade as were those
worn by adults. This example gray/green and fitting a mans small
finger indicative of a child of about eight years of age. Excellent
condition as expected. A macabre reminder of the staggering infant and
child mortality rate of those times and in a tradition related to the
Japanese boys day weapons..
Just 5/8 outer
diameter. Cylindrical with chamfered edges for a crisp release as with
the adult examples. Probably made for an infant.
