AN ITALIAN LEFT-HAND DAGGER, C.1620-30

Price: Sold
Item Number: GC.A.005
This charming dagger incorporates a fluted shell guard above the conventional ring guard in a deceptively pleasing arrangement. In fact, the combination comprises a trap capable of firmly gripping and even breaking an opponents blade should it enter the ring. The space between the ring and shell also are able to capture a blade laterally engaged. The blade, which retains virtually all its original blued finish, now turned brown, has a thumb recess for added control on the back. A contemporary inscription ADIAE, the meaning of which has been lost, is etched on the blade back. Blade length: 11 5/8" Provenance: The Boston Museum of Fine Art

Extended Layaway is available for this item.
