AN ITALIAN CLOSE HELMET C. 1550-60

Price: Sold
Item Number: 09-343

This helmet is from a well known group which display the elegant backswept form.  Another example, lacking its neck plates, is illustrated in European Weapons and Armour, Oakeshott, pl.18c.  The one piece skull has a line bordered roped crest with a bead flanked by double borders delineating the base and retains its original plume holder and rosettes.  This helmet was made for field (battle) use rather than the tournament.  The neck plates date to the early 17th century when the helmet was reused with a cuirassiers armor.
