Its high rounded upper hilt bar dates this rapier to the first quarter of the 17th century. It is a swept hilt of advanced form and superior quality. It was produced in Germany but may well have served in any of the Northern European countries, as German rapiers were extensively exported. The blade bears a makers mark to each side of the ricasso. Blade length: 37 3/8
