A GERMAN BLACK AND WHITE MORION C.1570-80
|
|
Item Number: 08-130
This example, of fine
flamboyant form, is from a distinctly identifiable group, showing
superior quality. The deep domed skull has a high broad "white" crest
with roped edge. Each hemisphere is embossed with a raised relief
crescent form band flanked by additional narrow raised band which is
decorative as well as adding strength. The balance of the field is
blackened, the transversely stippled brim polished in the "white" as
well. The curved brim upturned in fine sweeping terminals. Black and
white armor was produced in Germany and used both domestically and
exported. It is not uncommon for a Scandinavian arsenal to be equipped
with German armor.
Provenance: Aalholm Slot, the Danish Royal Castle at Nysted, Denmark.
Extended Layaway is available for this item.

This helmet represents the morion in its finest form. It is forged from a single piece with a high elegant roped edge comb and elegantly upswept brim.
|
This elegant helmet is of a form known as a Spanish morion which derives from the rule of Northern Italy by the Spanish Hapsburgs. The tall skull terminates in a “peak stalk”
