Zulu Wars period, c.1879, collected by a British soldier. Large size, 6 7/8 height. Wood body made in two pieces to allow hollowing and secured with wood pegs. Integral suspension ear. The entire surface decorated with panels of incised beaded lines. The spout made of brass, evidently from a British cartridge, and decorated in two ranks of interrupted lines. Original cork stopper. Fine condition with lovely age patina. Sharing snuff was an important cultural ritual to Zulu warriors which served to reinforce their bonds and mutual dependence..
