A FINE GERMAN SWEPT HILT RAPIER C.1590

Price: $6,700.00
Item Number: GC.A.014
This sword is from a well known group studied by A. V. B. Norman. Evidently all were made in Munich and among others, served the the Munich Town Guard. Examples are preserved in the Royal Armories, Leeds, the Wallace Collection, the Royal Army Museum, Brussels and private collections. They are distinguished by their substantial, straight tapered finely balanced blades and broad flat back convex hilt members. Marked examples include those produced by Wolfgang Stantler of Munich whose mark is a crowned S over T. This example is marked with a crowned T over S, probably a variation of the Stantler mark, or, less likely, a competitor. The form and quality strongly suggest Wolfgang Stantler as the maker. Blade length: 36 7/8

Extended Layaway is available for this item.
