|
Item Number: 86-118
Used in tribal warfare which was waged for the purpose of capturing slaves. 48 1/4 height. Finely made of split cane including two bands of four canes each of lighter color providing decorative relief. The top and bottom reinforced with basket weave. The balance horizontally bound about every three inches with twisted split cane. The edge finely bound in delicate overcast basket weave which is damaged along the left side. Otherwise excellent for the period. The hand grip removed from the back for mounting. See African Arms and Armour, Spring, p.80. Extremely rare owing to its perishable construction and suitable as the center piece of an ethnographic or slavery collection. Ex. Jean-Pierre Hallet collection.
