Iron, forged from
one piece with rolled edges and sunk borders lined with rivets. The
bottom edge with double incised lines above. The body finely embossed
in three steps including deep chevrons to the middle and center of the
arm openings. Each step with double line borders and an additional
double line within the field matching the bottom decoration. Retaining
virtually 100% original black arsenal finish. A few complete armors of
this quality and form are recorded including one belonging to the
Dymoke family, hereditary holders of the title Kings (or Queens)
Champion. That armor is currently loaned to the Tower of London
Collection.
Provenance: Hengrave Hall, near Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, England and probably made for Thomas Darcy, first Earl Rivers. Extended Layaway is available for this item.
