Second half of the 19th century, the period of greatest trade with Arabs including ivory and slaves. The period of Tippu Tib, the legendary slaver who by 1895, owned over 10,000 slaves. 19 1/4" curved s.e. blade, tool finished and decorated with pattern's of x's each side (good original finish). Brass sheathed hilt with flared guard and matching pommel. The scabbard sheathed in five brass segments, embossed in angled bands. Uniform patina throughout. See Jacob p.148 for another examble. Very rare.
