Standard pattern (P.52) with 21" leaf shaped blade with weak U.S.N. marks to reverse. Brass hilt with eagle motif pommel, scale grip and thickened edge guard stamped with 74 and stipple marked 297 3 Div. Blade crisp, smooth with some patterned staining, possibly from storage in straw. Left side with some open grain patterning, possibly as made. Hilt shows wear, knuckle bow bent, strictly a sign of use, and could be straightened. Important pattern very seldom encountered.
