THE KUH DASHT HOARD
Item Number: 93-198
In the 1970s a small hoard of Parthian coins and silver votive tablets dating to the first century BC and the Parthian Empire which flourished C.250 BC-226 AD, was discovered in Kuh Dasht, Iran, and documented in the Journal of the American Numismatic Society Museum Notes #26. Territorially, it included modern Iran, Armenia, Iraq, Georgia, Eastern Turkey and the lands all the way to the Persian Gulf. It was closely connected to Greece and retained autonomy through an agreement with Nero in about 60 BC. The Parthian Empire marked a return to greatness and power after defeating Alexanders successors, the Seleucids. Items #196-#198 are silver votive tablets from the Kuh Dasht Hoard, purchased by us decades ago and will be so certified. Parthian silver artifacts in private hands are exceedingly rare.
Rectangular with raised edge and pierced for suspension. Embossed central motif of two figures-loaves or fruit. Corner chipped, otherwise excellent.
