Triangular leather packet with stitched edges containing script from the Koran. Suspended on a necklace of blue trade beads. 23" length plus the excess string. Worn to protect the warrior in battle and deliver him if killed. The Somali followed the Mad Mahti and this amulet dates to the Sudanese War of 1885. Despite dubbing them Fuzzy Wuzzies because of their teased hair, the British recognized them as among the most valiant and proficient warriors ever encountered.
