Late 19th century. Cane body, 39 1/2 long, the end carved in rings and still retaining the pith seat for the spear butt. Elongated depression to seat the spear haft. The opposite end smoothed to accommodate the hand. The center with a finely carved mythological bird based on the hornbill, inlet in the cane and secured with split woven cane. Medium encrustation from use and good rich patina. The end of the grip with minor splinters. Very rarely encountered and particularly well carved.
