C.1850-80. 68 3/4”length with very skillfully forged iron head of elongated leaf form with triple crested medial rising at the point , two pairs of holes to the base and polished edge flanking the black forged medial. Integral bolster chiseled with bands of chevrons. The upper segment and that above the base,with good ridged brass tape wrap with the width increasing to the middle, resulting in increased thickness bands. Stipple edged brass wrap below. The balance of the haft with plain copper and brass band wrap full length. Broad copper grounding base. Excellent with good patina to the head. The haft with age encrustation, fine patina and undamaged. Exceptional.
